Flat Roofs

Just like with sloped (Pitched) roof -there’s not one perfect material for all residential flat roofs.

The Roof Whisperer Of Toronto will present all options and decide what works best for your roof system based on budget, and other exterior and interior factors.

If you’ve got a flat roof in need of replacing, here some types of materials we are specialized to install:

• EPDM

Most commonly used in sinlge-ply flat roofing because it is fast and simple to apply.

EPDM is an extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) widely used in low-slope buildings in Canada and worldwide. Its two primary ingredients, ethylene and propylene, are derived from oil and natural gas. EPDM is available in both black and white, and is sold a broad variety of widths, ranging from 7.5 feet to fifty feet, and in two thicknesses, 45 and 60 mils. EPDM can be installed either fully adhered, mechanically attached or ballasted, with the seams of the roofing system sealed with liquid adhesives or specially formulated tape

• SBS Membranes

What is SBS modified bitumen roofing? Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) describes a family of synthetic rubber derived from styrene and butadiene. The membranes consist of factory-fabricated layers of asphalt, modified using a plastic or rubber ingredient and combined with a reinforcement.

Pros: Durable for our climate.Cons:Installation by heating and torch present a significant fire hazard.

• PVC

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) single-ply roofing membranes are among the most popular commercial roofing products available today. They’re remarkably durable and highly resistant to some of the toughest flat-roof aggressors like fire, chemicals, and hurricane-level winds. But the benefits of PVC roofing go beyond durability to include solar reflectivity, which can help regulate building temperature and energy use. Thanks to their performance and installation advantages, PVC roofing systems have been put to the test and trusted by building owners around the world for more than 35 years. PVC membranes are available in a range of thicknesses and widths, from 50 mil to 80 mil and 5′ to 10′ widths.

• Liquid Membranes

Flat roofing manufacturer industry is pushing to make these water base products perform better and better. Installation of this system does not require very skilled installers and it gets applied fast and no risk of fire or fumes.

• TPO

Thermoplastic Polyolefin single-ply roofing. This material can be fully adhered, mechanically fastened or ballasted. This is a popular choice for “Green” roofs since it does not degrade under UV radiation.

When it comes to residential flat roof projects in Toronto we suggest installation of two-ply SBS membrane roof system. It perform very well in cold weather and it is durable when it comes to animal damages. This system can be installed with materials designed for cold ply application. Avoiding fire hazards to your home and neighbour’s is our priority.
